Two women, 83 and 88 years old, from Galati, lost 63,000 lei after falling victim to the “Accident” method. The total damage caused by the two swindlers, who also damaged two other women, is estimated at 170,000 lei, of which approximately 30% was recovered.

“On October 21 this year, the police officers of the 2nd Galati Police Department, with the support of those from the Galati Criminal Investigation Bureau, continued the investigations in a criminal case under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Galati Court, regarding the commission of the crime of fraud and identified and detained a woman”. transmits IPJ Galati.
According to the investigation, on October 13 and 18, a 51-year-old woman from the municipality allegedly misled the two elderly women.
After having remitted 12,000 lei, respectively 10,000 euros and 1,000 lei, they were contacted by phone by a 43-year-old man from Galati, who is currently incarcerated in the Botoşani Penitentiary.
The man posed as a doctor and demanded money, claiming it was a contribution towards the cost of surgery, after telling the women that a loved one had been involved in an accident.
Later, the 51-year-old woman showed up at the victims' homes, telling them that she was a medical representative, and allegedly picked up the money that was to be used for “medical intervention”.
Also following the investigations, the police discovered that the same woman would have committed, in the months of March and May 2025, two other acts of deception, through the same method of operation, harming two other women, from the municipality of Galati, with the total amount of 110,000 lei.
“The police conducted house searches at the woman's home, where they discovered clothing items that correspond to those worn by her at the time of committing the acts, as well as amounts of money in the amount of 8,885 euros and 5,370 lei, as well as several mobile phones (see image gallery below).
By ordinance, issued on October 21, 2025, it was ordered to continue the criminal investigation against the 51-year-old woman and the 43-year-old man, under the aspect of committing four crimes of fraud”adds IPJ Galati.
The woman was detained for 24 hours. The total damage caused is estimated at 170,000 lei, with approximately 30% recovered. The researches are being continued in order to establish all the circumstances of the commission of the acts and the disposition of the legal measures that are imposed, informs IPJ Galati.
