“The pensioners, who knew the guest well, let him into the apartment and invited him to the table. During the conversation, he heard noise in the entrance and, approaching the front door, saw police officers through the peephole. The man suggested that they were looking for him for a crime – the day before he and a friend committed extortion and were wanted. Wanting to avoid meeting with law enforcement officers, he decided to escape through the balcony. To prevent pensioners from interfering with the implementation of the plan, he tied the woman’s hands with tape. Seeing this, the husband stood up for her, a fight broke out between them, during which the aggressor inflicted several cuts on the woman’s neck with a utility knife and inflicted bodily injuries on her husband with scissors. The pensioners died on the spot from their injuries,” the prosecutor’s office and the Investigative Committee said.

After killing the couple, the attacker took their mobile phone, money and keys to the car, which he used to drive to Krasnoyarsk, where he was detained.

“I didn’t want the victims to die; if they hadn’t actively resisted, I wouldn’t have killed them,” he explained during the preliminary investigation. The man refused to testify in court.

Based on the totality of crimes, he was sentenced to 23 years of imprisonment with the first 5 years to be served in prison, and 18 years in a maximum security correctional colony, followed by restriction of freedom for a period of 1.5 years.

The civil claim of the injured party was also satisfied for a total amount of 4 million rubles in compensation for moral damage.
