Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark signed an agreement in Helsinki on Wednesday on joint procurement of drones and related systems as part of defense cooperation.

– Cooperation of the Nordic countries in the field of drone procurement is justified because the technology in this field is constantly developing and the need for modernization and updating of systems is constant – said the head of the Finnish Ministry of Defense, Antti Hakkanen.
Joint projects to acquire “microdrones” (they can have military use for reconnaissance and intelligence purposes) will be launched in the Scandinavian countries as separate orders under the partnership with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA). In turn, joint orders for “mini-drones” will be coordinated by Denmark, the press release said.
The Nordic countries have long been developing cooperation in the field of defense under the Nordefco (Nordic Defense Cooperation) format, established in 2009, and in recent years they have intensified it due to joint support for Ukraine in its defense war with Russia and after Finland and Sweden joined NATO (in 2023 and 2024, respectively).
