In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, on the site of the disappeared village of Khaya, a memorial stone was erected to Valentin Voino-Yasenetsky. He is known as Saint Luke, a Russian surgeon and shepherd.
The regional Ministry of Health said that the monument was opened on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the first Siberian exile of Valentin Voino-Yasenetsky. For his beliefs, Saint Luke was persecuted three times and spent 11 years of his life in prisons and exile. While serving his sentence in the Yenisei province from 1923 to 1926, he spent some time in a remote taiga village of eight houses called Khaya.
The village flourished in 1934, when a school opened in one of the private houses. In 1955 it closed due to lack of children. Life in the village began to decline, young people gradually moved to new villages. Someone set Haya, which was eventually empty, on fire, leaving no trace of its past.
However, today the name of St. Luke resurrects the memory of the forgotten village. Thanks to the installation of the memorial, these harsh but picturesque places become an object of historical heritage:
“This is just the beginning. We would really like that any person, no matter where he lives, would want to come and bow to the memorial stone, breathe in the air of history, and plunge into thoughts about daily life. We are ready to move on and participate in projects that will allow us to obtain the necessary funding for the development of this territory, the first tourist route in the Boguchansky district,” said the head of the Osinomyssk village council, Dmitry Kuznetsov, who was one of the initiators of preserving the memory of his native places.
