Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on his allies to take “decisive measures” on Sunday after returning from a visit to Washington, where he did not get the military support he wanted from the United States, reports AFP.
“Ukraine will never give terrorists any reward for their crimes, and we rely on our partners to maintain this position,” Volodymyr Zelenskiy wrote on social media, urging his European and American allies to take “decisive measures.”
The Ukrainian president went to the White House on Friday to ask his American counterpart for Tomahawk missiles, with a range of 1,600 kilometers, to strengthen the Ukrainian army in the face of Russian forces. But Donald Trump remained deaf to this request.
“The meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was very interesting and cordial, but I told him, as I suggested to President Putin, that it is time to stop the killing and reach an AGREEMENT,” the US president wrote on his Truth Social network.
Moscow has stepped up its attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, forcing thousands of people to endure blackouts in the run-up to winter.
“This week alone, Russia has used more than 3,270 attack drones, 1,370 aerial guided bombs and almost 50 missiles of various types against Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
Ukrainian authorities announced, later on Sunday, the death of two people in the east of the country, where more than ten people were injured.
Ukraine, in turn, has stepped up attacks against Russia's western border regions and its gas and oil facilities.
This weekend, chemical plants and gas facilities located in two Russian regions more than 1,500 kilometers from the front line were damaged, local governors said.
The Russian army announced on Sunday that it had captured two villages in Ukraine's Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions. Both sides said they had intercepted dozens of drones launched at each other overnight.
