Lyme disease is rampant in the Czech Republic. The most cases in the history of measurements


According to SZU, another 600 people fell ill with tick-borne meningitis.

The autumn increase in Lyme disease cases may be related to ticks brought from forests to homes by mushroom pickers. Arachnids remain active until the temperature drops below five degrees Celsius. If left untreated, Lyme disease may lead to permanent consequences.

Unlike Lyme disease, which is treated with antibiotics, there is currently no effective cure for tick-borne meningitis. However, there is a vaccine, and scientists are working on a preparation against Lyme disease.

According to last year's data, approximately 39% of people in the Czech Republic were vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis. people aged 65 and over, 37 percent aged 55-64 and 46 percent aged 35-54. The most vaccinated children are aged four to six.

In the Czech Republic, vaccinations of people over 50 years of age are reimbursed by health insurance. Other people can get a partial refund.
