“It was difficult in the roundabouts.” Foreign deliverymen, confused by traffic from Romania

Foreign workers who come to Romania often face traffic, which is different from that in the country they come from. Many of them say that traffic rules give them a lot of trouble.

Muhammad, a worker from Pakistan, told ProTV: “The first time I came here, it was difficult in the roundabouts.”
It happened to others like him. There are delivery people who are not very familiar with traffic laws, who use bicycles and scooters.
“Too many of them stop or park irregularly, park their bicycle or moped in a place where they can obstruct traffic, drive between lanes or position themselves in a place in such a way that they are not easily noticed,” he stated Claudiu Costea, spokesman for the Bucharest Road Brigade.
Another problem is that many takeaways don't use a phone holder when pedaling through traffic. Thus, they are not paying attention to the road.
“They cut in front, they come from the side, from the sides at high speed, even if they are scooters. We see them at the last moment,” said one driver.
In this context, the Traffic Police organizes courses for foreign couriers several times a year. The most recent took place on Thursday, October 16.
“Today, a representative of the General Inspectorate for Immigration – the Directorate for Immigration of the Municipality of Bucharest participated to a designated road education session foreign citizens who carry out food and goods delivery activities through digital platforms”, sends the General Inspectorate for Immigration in a press release.

The course was organized by the Association of Foreign Employees from Romania, in partnership with the Bucharest Traffic Police Brigade, “aimed at increasing awareness of compliance with traffic rules, responsibility in traffic and prevention of road accidents.”
“During the event, the representative of the General Inspectorate for Immigration provided the participants with useful information from the field of competence, regarding the rights and obligations of foreign citizens on Romanian territory, thus contributing to a better understanding of the rules of coexistence and integration”the institution reports.
