This change is part of the new provisions ordering those applying for non -immigration and immigration visas to arrange an interview in a country of which they are citizens or in which they live. However, in 16 countries, including Russia, Belarus, North Korea and Afghanistan, routine visa services were suspended, which forces the applicants to travel to another place.
In 2021, the US embassy in Russia ceased to provide non -graduate services, including issuing non -immigration visas due to the ban on hiring local staff introduced by the Russian government.
Pursuant to the new regulations, Russians with a legal place of residence in another country may submit applications at their place of residence. Others must now go to the US Embassy in Warsaw or to the US embassy in Astana in Kazakhstan.
This requirement may prove to be difficult to meet in practice. Poland issues visits to Russian citizens only on the basis of humanitarian premises, which makes the reservation of the deadline in Warsaw almost impossible, unless the applicant already has the right to stay in the European Union.
