As the days get shorter and there is less sun, violets often stop blooming. The soil in the pots is gradually depleted, the leaves lose their elasticity, and buds form less frequently. But there is a good way to support plants without resorting to chemical fertilizers: use an improvised product that can be found in any kitchen.
It's about ground eggshells. It contains a lot of calcium and microelements that improve the composition of the soil and reduce acidity. Just a pinch is enough for the roots to receive soft nutrition and the leaves to remain dense and bright green. In autumn, this is especially important – during this period, violets spend energy restoring after active flowering.
The shells are pre-washed, dried and ground to a powder. Then pour it under the top layer of soil or mix it with a small amount of soil when replanting. You can do this fertilizing once a month – the effect is cumulative and safe.
After such a “mineral cushion”, violets feel confident even with a short day: the leaves do not turn yellow, and the buds appear one after another.
