Viral photo with Director Astra sleeping in the car while traveling in Brussels Photo: Facebook/ Cătălin Oprișan

The photo presents Ciprian Stefan, the director of the Astra Museum in Sibiu, while sleeping in a van with which he traveled to Brussels where the museum received the European Heritage Awards/Europa 2025 for the project “Casa Arte-Center for Regional Activities and Resources”. The image was distributed on Facebook by journalist Cătălin Oprișan who asked the director and a point of view.

“I could go by plane, but I said to save, to move, in Brussels, a bigger delegation. I gave up comfort so that my colleagues, with whom I worked on this project, could enjoy. A doubt, more personal car, we did. I was tired, I had a little,” Kissfm.

Contacted by the local publication, the time of Sibiu, the director explained that the photo was taken by a friend from the delegation and is not the first time he chooses to move by car to have a bigger delegation.

“It is not the first and certainly the last time we do this. Countless times we go to Europe with cars. Instead of taking only a few people in charge of me, I prefer to go more members of the team. It is important to come more, because people are essential – with them you do everything.

The “Oscar” for the cultural heritage

The Astra Museum is the only cultural institution in Romania to receive the European Heritage Awards/Europe Nostra, known as the “Oscar” in the European Cultural Heritage Segment, according to a post on the Museum's Facebook page.

The Casa Arts Project – The Center for Regional Activities and Resources was awarded in the category “Training Education and Skills”
