Former president Traian Băsescu stated, on B1 TV, that Daniel Băluță, the PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall, should prepare for a failure in the electoral competition, as the social democrats have a history of sabotaging their own candidates.

“If we follow the PSD tradition, Băluță will not win. Grindeanu has no interest in having the second man in the number of votes in his own party because he is a potential substitute and a substitute ready at any time, being the general mayor of the Capital”, said Traian Băsescu, former mayor of the Capital in 2000-2004.

He recalled that, during the two presidential election campaigns in which he participated, he received compromising information about his PSD opponents, even from other social democrats.

“The PSD tradition says that they kill their own candidates. I will not forget that in my two campaigns for the presidency of Romania I received files and footage against Năstase and against Geoana, from the PSD. That I did not use them is another matter, but I received them and they are a reality that all my staff knows (…) Băluță should be prepared not to win”, believes Băsescu.

He appreciated that a strong competition is being announced as the favorites are candidates who have experience in administration. On the other hand, the former head of state warned that the people of Bucharest should not have big illusions about the performances of the future mayor of the Capital.

“I will be very honest. The people of Bucharest must not have very high expectations from the general mayor. Why? Because Năstase, in his ferocious selfishness, destroyed the Capital's budget, breaking it into seven, and basically, the Capital's City Hall barely has any money left to pay the heating subsidy and the STB subsidy, and if there is money left for a few expenses. And the rest of the money is all in the sectors, where, with great joy, we plant pansies, we do all kinds of shows. I'm not saying that some necessary things like repaired schools or supported hospitals are not done, but a Bucharest with 7 budgets…” commented Traian Băsescu.
