President Nicușor Dan said on Monday evening, at Antena 3 CNN, that the packages of measures adopted by the Bolojan Government “are not perfect” and “could be done otherwise”, but that the current coalition managed to harmonize them to avoid “a dangerous derail”. The head of state also listed the first three issues on the agenda of his mandate.
“We have a coalition that has passed some packages of measures. If we look at the results, it has managed to harmonize on packages of measures that are not perfect, which, in my opinion, could be done otherwise. They were subsumed to not allow a derais that would have taken a dangerous turn,” Nicușor said.
Asked what measures would have made different from the Bolojan Government, the president refused to say: “I do not mean because I would enter into a controversy with the Government and I do not want to add a problem. It was necessary to take measures in a short time and then you will take them as you can, and 2: it was more than the 2026, so it was 2026. The deficit, we will enter the OECD and Romania will be attractive for companies to invest, we will extract gas from the Black Sea and we will be interesting.
Nicușor Dan's answer, asked if Ilie Bolojan “annoyed” with the refusals
“Did you understand why Ilie Bolojan refuses to you?” Ilie Bolojan annoys you with these refusals? “Was one of the questions, related to the fact that the prime minister insured the VAT increase.
“When we are in this position, there is no place for personal humors. If we talk about VAT, more than that, when the Government installed on this promise, and then returned to this promise … it was part of the understanding when the government was formed. Then the Government said: Only so.
“I am not allowed to get angry,” the president replied to the insistence of an Antena 3 journalist.
He also stated that he did not regret his proposal for Ilie Bolojan to become a prime minister.
“In the campaign I said that it seems to me an appropriate choice and this was made. It was a participation of all the participants in this coalition (the choice of Bolojan. No),” added Nicușor Dan.
The three priorities listed by the president
Prayed by the moderator to say what three priority problems on his list, Nicușor Dan said it was current problems.
“In those 3 months since we started the mandate, there were mandatory issues: all the partners and the financial market, which borrows consistently, suggested that Romania, in order to be credited, must have a stable governance. This was the first issue,” said Nicușor Dan.
The head of state said that one of his responsibilities is to contribute to maintaining the balance of the coalition, “insofar as my intervention is needed.”
“The second is the one with the deficit, at the same risk: a possible downgrade of Romania from the rating agencies would have meant the withdrawal of important amounts of money from Romania.
And the third, the need for Romania to be well represented internationally and this required an effort to go everywhere, to explain where Romania is ”, continued President Nicușor Dan.
