A US attack made on a boat off the coast of Venezuela killed six people suspected of drug trafficking on Tuesday, announced US President Donald Trump, according to Reuters, who notes that this is the latest operation of its kind in recent weeks.

The announced bombardment is the latest example of Trump's efforts to use US military power in new and often legally controversial ways, from the development of US troops, in Los Angeles to anti -terrorist attacks against drug trafficking suspects.

In a post on the social network Truth Social, Trump wrote that the attack was made against a “designated terrorist organization” (DTO), but did not provide details about the respective group.

“The intelligence services have confirmed that the trafficking ship is associated with the illicit networks of narcoterusists,” Trump said, without providing evidence.

A video recording of about 30 seconds, marked as “desecretized”, posted by Trump with the message, seems to show a stationary ship in a body of water that is hit by a projectile, and then explode.

The full message published by Trump:

  • In accordance with my permanent authority, as a supreme commander, this morning, the war secretary (the head of the Pentagon, no) ordered a lethal kinetic attack on a ship affiliated with a designated terrorist organization (DTO) who deals with drug trafficking in the area of responsibility of Usiouthcom – even off the coast.
  • The intelligence services confirmed that the ship was in charge of drug trafficking, was associated with illegal narco-terrorist networks and transit a known DTO route.
  • The attack was made in international waters, and six male narcoterusists on board the ship were killed.
  • No member of the American armed forces has been injured. Thank you for the attention paid to this issue !!!!!!

Trump threatened with terrestrial operations

On Sunday, Trump announced that US forces have hit, the day before, off the coast of Venezuela, another suspected drug trafficking vessel, the US president understanding that the US Army could soon resort to terrestrial operations against narcotractors.

It is not clear whether Trump referred, in a speech at the base of Norfolk in the state of Virginia of the American Military, at the action announced by the Minister of Defense, Pete Hegseth on Friday.

Located near Porcavion Harry S. Truman, the American leader said that “in recent weeks the military has supported our action to shatter the hell on the face of the water (…) I did it once again.” He added that “now we no longer find” traffickers, “I don't come on the water anymore, so now we will have to think about land, because they will be forced to go on land.”

Reuters and Agerpres agencies noted that the operation on Saturday, in which four people were killed, was at least the fourth kind of the last few weeks. The United States has so far not present evidence of the involvement of vessels hit in drug trafficking.

Hegseth, however, held in an interview broadcast on Sunday by Foxnews television that he has all the necessary authorizations for Caribbean attacks.

Maduro's reaction

Shortly after the announcement made on Sunday by Trump, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro published a video message on which he condemned the American aggression against Venezuela and said that his country matters on diplomatic support.

“Our people have never been afraid and will never be afraid to defend their right to life and freedom,” said Maduro, without referring directly to Trump's statements.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said on Sunday, a little earlier, that his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov expressed in a telephone conversation “the whole support and solidarity” with Venezuela.

The head of the diplomacy in Caracas had stated on Saturday that Maduro wrote to Pope Leon to ask for support for “consolidating peace in Venezuela”.
