VIDEO “It's over. He's finally gone.” Orban's defeat, celebrated on the streets of Budapest

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets of Budapest to celebrate the victory of the opposition Tisza party, ending Viktor Orban's 16-year rule, amid a record turnout of nearly 80 percent in Sunday's election, according to Reuters.

“I feel amazing! Really amazing! I mean, I never thought this would really happen. I've been praying for this for 16 years, so I'm very happy,” said a supporter of Péter Magyar's Tisza party.

Although the counting of votes has not officially ended, data from Monday morning shows that 98.93% of the votes have already been processed, confirming the clear victory of the opposition.

Reuters reports that Budapest turned into a party arena until dawn: the famous Chain Bridge was illuminated in the national colors, while champagne was clashed on the banks of the Danube under the flags of Hungary and the European Union.

Chants of “It's over!” rang out in the Budapest subway, while in front of the Parliament the victory was celebrated with a rave party. “I hope the new prime minister will be for all Hungarians, as he promised,” said Sandor Zoletnik, a supporter of Tisza's party.

The enthusiasm was overwhelming especially among young people, who hugged each other in the streets: “I can't describe what I feel! Finally, after 16 years, we feel that there is hope that Hungary will go in the right direction.” This joy reflects the reality at the polls, where Orban's party has massively lost the support of the new generation.

The celebration continued long after midnight, with crowds blocking major boulevards and bridges over the Danube with national flags and cheering horns.
