Elena Pospelova, a specialist at the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Tomsk Region, explained how to properly organize meals for schoolchildren during school hours. According to her, habitual sweets and baked goods cause sharp fluctuations in blood sugar levels, which leads to overexcitement, and then to fatigue and decreased concentration.
According to RIA Tomsk, whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, protein foods and healthy fats are better for a healthy snack. The expert recommends giving children bread, cheese, dried fruits, nuts, and homemade sandwiches made from whole grain bread with chicken or turkey.
Particular attention should be paid to the storage conditions of products. Sausage, cream products, dairy products and salads with mayonnaise quickly spoil without refrigeration and can cause poisoning. Food should be packaged in airtight containers and prepared no more than 2-3 days ahead.
Plain water without gas is best for drinking. If there are signs of poisoning – nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain – you should immediately consult a doctor. The expert also recalled the importance of following personal hygiene rules: washing hands before eating and using individual utensils.
