In 1932, Gregory moved from Ukraine to Birobidzhan.

November 17, 1936
On November 17, 1936, new streets appeared in Birobidzhan.
By resolution of the Presidium of the Birobidzhan City Council dated No. 287, a new street appeared, parallel to the one on which the food industry artel was located, from the street. Kazakevich to st. Kalinina. It was named Volochaevskaya Street.
It received its name on the eve of the 15th anniversary of the famous battle on Volochaevskaya Sopka.
The street was located on the outskirts of the city. In 1936, private houses and barracks were located here. A little later they began to build two-story “wooden buildings”. Some of them have survived to this day.
Volochaevskaya Street is familiar to many generations of citizens who lived and live here, work and study, and those who simply drive along it. The only bus route passing here – “dvoika” – will take you to the industrial zone, to the trading base and to summer cottages.
Having been on this old street, it is as if you are plunging into the history of the city, into its past. Time has almost stopped here.
The street parallel to the one on which the old power plant and Dimitrov factory were located is named after Dimitrov.
Currently, there are shops on Dimitrova Street, including bookstores, pharmacies, and shops.
There are several hairdressing salons on the even side of the street; at the intersection of Sholom Aleichem Street there is a social hairdressing salon for pensioners.
At the beginning of Dimitrova Street, in a wooden building, there is a military commandant’s office, and opposite the House of Books store there is a military commissariat.
Streets in several localities in our region are named after the writer Maxim Gorky. There are Gorky streets in the villages of Amurzet and Nikolaevka, in the city of Obluchye along Gorky Street there is a new building of the district hospital and a technical college.
A new street parallel to Oktyabrskaya Street, from Kalinin Street to Partizanskaya Street, is named after Gorky. Initially, it bore the name of the head of BAMlag Naum Frenkel.
Previously, the main hairdresser of the city was located on Gorky Street. In the men's room at Uncle Misha Gomberg's, there was always a line of people wanting to get their hair cut and freshened up by this particular master.
On this street there was a popular restaurant “Birobidzhan”, which often changed its name.
The length of Gorky Street is only 500 meters; there is a bank, pharmacies, many different shops, cafes and other establishments on it.
The street parallel to the one on which the bath and laundry plant is located, from the street. Kazakevich to st. Kalinina is named after Dzerzhinsky.

Dzerzhinsky Street is not long. It is located in the center of Birobidzhan, although not in plain sight.
According to the recollections of old-timers, in the late forties in this part of the city, two buildings stood out against the backdrop of one-story residential buildings, without which the life of any city is unthinkable – a bakery and a bathhouse.
Moving further along Dzerzhinsky Street, after crossing it with Komsomolskaya, there is a dental clinic. On the opposite side of the street there was a popular cafe “Uyut” – it was there that for the first time in the city a Jewish cuisine hall with appropriate paraphernalia opened. Later there was a supermarket in this building, and currently there is a pharmacy in this building.
At the intersection of the street. Dzerzhinsky and Chapaev, the building of the regional social house No. 2 is located.
