VTB and the bank's technology partner IT Holding T1 presented a self-service cash register with biometric verification of customers' age. The presentation of the solution took place within the framework of the FINOPOLIS-2025 forum.
The cash register allows you to set the conditions for the sale of goods depending on the age of buyers: for example, limit the sale of goods to 18+ children and teenagers, as well as sell goods at a discount to pensioners or students.
When purchasing a particular product, the self-service checkout camera reads the buyer’s face in the video stream, converting the image into a numeric code – a vector. This vector passes through the commercial biometric system VTB (KBS) and subsequently through the state unified biometric system (UBS). Thus, the device receives permission to sell the user a product in accordance with his age. All this takes a few seconds.
“Biometric technologies open up fundamentally new opportunities in the development of payments, and as a result, the improvement of banking services,” said Sergey Bezbogov, deputy head of the technology unit – senior vice president of VTB.
After the system confirms the buyer’s age, he is given the opportunity to choose payment – he can use either biometric payment or payment with a regular plastic card, QR code and other methods.
The solution uses a hardware and software complex (SHC) developed by VTB and T1 specialists. Together with the cash register, VTB presented at FINOPOLIS-2025 an innovative acquiring terminal that allows you to control the sale of goods with age markings.
“The banking sector and retail traditionally set digitalization trends in Russia. The system for automatic validation of the buyer’s age presented at FINOPOLIS-2025, available through integration with the bank’s biometric system and the state biometric system (KBS and EBS), is one of the examples of such products,” said Dmitry Kharitonov, CEO of the T1 IT holding.
