The leader of the Venezuelan Opposition, María Corina Machado, was declared “shocked” when she learned that she received the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, according to a video sent by her press team to AFP.
The soul of the Venezuelan Opposition, Machado, 58 years old, lives in clandestinity since the July 2024 presidential elections, which the opposition claims to have won, saying that President Nicolas Maduro, in power in 2013, frauduted the election.
“I am shocked!”, Machado tells Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who replaced her as a candidate because of his political ineligibility.
“What about this?
“We are shocked, but with joy,” Gonzale I replied, leaving for exile shortly after the elections.

The Nobel Nobel Committee announced on Friday that the 2025 laureate of the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize is Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless work to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and to struggle to obtain a fair and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Machado is hiding in an unknown location of August 2024, after the regime of President Nicolas Maduro triggered a brutal repression of manifestations against opposition and pro-democracy demonstrations.
