The rescuers warn that there is a significant risk of avalanches in the Bucegi, Făgăraș and Parâng-Şureanu Mountains, given that in recent days it has snowed a lot at over 1,800 meters altitude and a layer of fresh snow of over 20-30 centimeters has fallen, and in some places over 40 centimeters, in all massifs, informs News.ro.
According to the mountain rescuers, in the upper part of the massifs there is a layer of snow with low resistance and partially moistened, with thicknesses between 20 centimeters and almost half a meter, formed on ridges from successive depositions in the previous period and which is deposited over a thicker and hardened layer.
“More consistent deposits are found on certain slopes or valleys. There is a risk of triggering medium-sized and isolated even large avalanches, which could engage the unstable upper layer,” the mountain rescuers warn.
They specify that some “flows” can appear at the altitude level of 1,800-2,000 meters, against the background of daytime temperatures close to 0 degrees.
“The risk will be amplified with any type of overloading of the layer with tourists or skiers and will be significant, level 3”, the mountain rescuers also warn.
They also announce that at altitudes below 1,800 meters the snow cover is small and is present, especially from 1,700 meters.
According to the same source, there will be light mixed precipitation and temporary snow.
