In October, roses especially need care. After abundant flowering, plants weaken, and it is important for them to accumulate strength in order to calmly survive the cold. While the ground is not yet frozen, there is one simple trick that helps roses to winter without freezing – it will be enough to add a handful of ordinary powder, which is found in almost every home, under each bush.
We are talking about wood ash. This natural remedy works gently but effectively: it strengthens the root system, makes the soil less acidic and saturates it with potassium, phosphorus and calcium: precisely those elements that help plants survive stress and cold.
In the fall, just before sheltering, the ground around the bush is slightly loosened, and then a handful of ash is poured under the base of the rose. If the soil is dry, you can water it with warm water to help the nutrients absorb faster. The procedure takes a couple of minutes, but gives a noticeable effect: the plants become stronger, the bark becomes rougher, and the shoots ripen better than without fertilizing.
In spring, such roses wake up earlier, without darkened shoots or signs of freezing. Even old bushes that previously suffered from frost look alive and healthy.
