US President Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize like no other Western politician – says the German daily “Die Welt” on Thursday, on the eve of the award ceremony. As it was emphasized, the plan for the Gaza Strip proves that Trump has kept his word and is a “brilliant strategist and politician.”

“Die Welt” recalled that the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 was awarded to then US President Barack Obama. According to the daily, he was distinguished “when he was just unpacking the last pieces of furniture in the White House” – for “rhetorical eloquence, a kind of decoration of cheap, yet elegant, polished, intelligent and somehow endearing remarks.”

The newspaper assessed that, in retrospect, “great speakers such as Obama and Chancellor Angela Merkel failed.”

“Now Donald J. Trump – the most disliked among the disliked in the kingdom of eloquent speakers. Once again he has kept his word. With his rough, often inelegant and even vulgar style, he has proven that he is a brilliant strategist and politician,” wrote “Die Welt”. According to the daily, apart from the “boorish election rhetoric”, in his second term Trump surrounded himself with “the best professionals capable of conducting complex negotiations, such as the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, which was completed on Thursday.”

“Donald Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize like no other Western politician,” it said.

Die Welt warned that “the arrogance of Europeans towards the 'orange' US president may backfire.” Europe, as the newspaper writes, “once again plays virtually no role in resolving global conflicts.” “Cynically, one could say that only the Turkish part of Europe still has something to say. And even the wish that Europeans will draw conclusions from this seems unrealistic,” it added.

According to “Die Welt”, the breakthrough in the Middle East also gives hope for peace in Ukraine. “If anyone can persuade Putin to come up with a solution that is also acceptable for Ukraine, it is Donald Trump,” sums up the German daily.

This year's Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced on Friday. Trump has repeatedly argued that he deserves this distinction, although – as he claims – he will not receive it because of his political views.

His candidacy was supported by, among others, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Israel, Cambodia and Rwanda. Representatives of the families of Hamas hostages kidnapped on October 7, 2023 also supported the award for the American president.

Peace and conflict expert prof. However, Isak Svensson from Uppsala University, for example, believes that Trump has no chance of receiving the Nobel Prize for formal reasons and due to lack of merit.
