During talks, Tusk emphasized that Polish-Lithuanian friendship is based on a common history and geopolitical interests, and bilateral relations between countries are very good. In the context of the war in Ukraine, the prime minister pointed out that Poland and Lithuania have coincided views and joint activities, especially within NATO. “Our countries are most exposed to direct provocations from Russia, which is why coordination in NATO and in wider formats is absolutely necessary” – he said.
The topic of migration was also discussed during the meeting. Tusk emphasized that Poland and Lithuania understand the importance of counteracting illegal migration, which – as he noted – is organized by Alaksander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin. The Prime Minister assured that both countries are ready to cooperate to effectively eliminate the threats associated with this problem.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister suggested that the rule of Poland and Lithuania organize joint meetings that would allow regular exchange of opinions and analyzes of the geopolitical situation. “The geopolitical situation requires us to plan and act together” Ruginne emphasized.
The subject of strategic projects such as Rail Baltica, which is important for both citizens and for the security of the region, also raised in conversations. In addition, the prime ministers discussed issues regarding the Polish minority in Lithuania. Tusk pointed out that talks on this subject can be conducted calmly and without emotions.
Poland and Lithuania agree on Ukraine
Ruginiene drew attention to specific activities as part of the strategic partnership between Poland and Lithuania, including the participation of Polish Air Force in NATO missions. – Poland is our strategic partner with whom we can solve all problems together – emphasized the Lithuanian prime minister.
In the context of Ukraine, both leaders agreed that their rule would support the country in his pursuit of victory on their own conditions.
