Michael Idowu Shines as FC Argeș Prepares for New Season

FC Argeș has found a promising talent during their training camp in Slovenia, as 19-year-old Nigerian winger Michael Idowu has been making headlines with his impressive goal-scoring ability. Despite a quiet transfer market where the club secured only two signings, coach Bogdan Andone has identified Idowu as a potential key player for the upcoming season.
With the season set to begin in two weeks, the team has added just two players: Evagoras Antoniou, a defender from APOEL Nicosia, and winger Taylor Luvambo, who previously played in France for Le Mans. However, it is Idowu who has captured attention during the pre-season matches, where he scored in each of the three friendly games, including a notable performance where he netted twice in a 4-0 victory over NK Jadran Dekani.
Michael Idowu’s Emergence as a Star for FC Argeș
Idowu joined FC Argeș from Nigeria in early 2026 and initially served as a backup option. However, as the previous season progressed and the team’s goals were compromised, Andone began to integrate Idowu more into the squad. He played a half in the 2-2 draw against Rapid and 52 minutes in a 1-1 stalemate with CFR Cluj, earning positive reviews for his contributions.
During training camp, Idowu proved his worth by scoring multiple goals, showcasing his potential as a valuable asset for the team. Currently valued at €50,000 on Transfermarkt, Idowu is the first professional club in his career.
A Humble Beginning for Idowu
Idowu comes from a large family and has faced significant challenges growing up in an underprivileged environment. His move to Romania is seen as an opportunity to improve his circumstances. Those close to the team describe him as a quiet, respectful, and hardworking individual who aims not to disturb anyone. Reportedly, he arrived in Romania with just a backpack.
Before being included in the first team, Idowu made a strong impression with the youth team of Argeș, according to observers who have seen him play. Romanian agent Andrei Balmoș, who facilitated Idowu’s transfer, expressed confidence that the young talent will become a key player for FC Argeș as he continues to adapt to the team.
FC Argeș is set to kick off their new season on Friday, July 17, against FCSB in a highly anticipated match.
