Several shepherds were stuck with the flocks of sheep in the mountains in the Obârşia Lotrului area, on Monday morning requesting by 112 the intervention of the roads for the clearing of the Transalpina road (DN 67C), closed to the traffic for several days, in order to descend the approximately 10,000 animals that can no longer advance.
Most of the shepherds left on the mountain are from Gorj and Vaideeni, Vâlcea county and they were surprised by the snowfall in the last days in the mountain regions. On Saturday morning they also requested the support of the Salvamontists, after one of them wandered near the peak of Nedei in an attempt to tighten the sheep who scattered.
He was found after several hours of searching, and only on Sunday evening were all the animals spread through the forests in the area.
“” He had no medical problems, because they are used to the time of the mountain, but they cannot be left to stay there in the snow, because they cannot abandon their flocks. They called on Saturday morning at 112, after one of the shepherds in Vaideeni had wandered during the night. They hoped that the weather will go and will be able to descend safely.
The Transalpina road is closed on the road sector between Rânca and Obârşia Lotrului on Thursday, and the representatives of the Roads and Bridges Regional Directorate (DRDP) Craiova announced on Monday morning that they will intervene in the area until the weather conditions will allow this.
“” There is a large snow on the road and still snow. The forecasts announce that there are still snowfall, which makes it impossible to reopen this section of road. Our intervening on this mountain road sector ”, said Cristi Tudor, representative of DRDP Craiova.
In the area of Obârşia Lotrului, the snow layer measures about half a meter.
