Freshwear should smell of cleanliness, and not with stray, mold or “damp from the basement.” But even with regular washing in the machine, an unpleasant odor appears over time, especially if you often erase at low temperatures or leave the door closed.
The reason is moisture, the remnants of the detergent and microbes in a rubber seal, filter and drum. But you do not need to buy special tablets for half a price of washing powder. There is a proven method from simple ingredients that are in almost every kitchen.
You will need:
- Citric acid – 2 tablespoons
- Food soda – 2 tablespoons
- Hot water – for rinsing (optional)
How to make:
- Pour the citric acid directly into the drum of the washing machine.
- Pour soda into the powder department (or also into the drum, if there is no separate tray).
- Run the rinse or laundry washing mode at a temperature of 60–90 ° C.
- After the end of the cycle, wipe the rubber seal with a damp cloth and leave the door ajar for several hours.
Cymonic acid dissolves the scale and kills bacteria, and soda neutralizes smells and softens water. Together, they clean the machine deeper than any chemistry, and do not leave sharp smells.
After the first procedure, the underwear will stop smelling of “old water”, and after a couple of weeks the smell will disappear completely.
Question-answer:
- Is it possible to use vinegar instead of citric acid?
It is possible, but vinegar can damage rubber seals with frequent use. Citric acid is softer and more efficiently against scale. - Why does the smell in the washing machine return in a week?
Most likely, wet residues remained in the rubber seal. After each wash, wipe it with a dry rag and leave the door ajar.
