Trump intends to take advantage of government blocking for massive dismissals among civil servants

The Donald Trump administration intends to take advantage of the government blockage (“shutdown”) to quickly dismiss Federal officials, writes Bloomberg. Russell Vought, the head of the White House budget office, would have informed the members of the representatives of the Federal Agents on Wednesday, October 1, October 1, October 1, October 1, October 1st.

The spokesman for the White House, Caroline Levitt, announced that the dismissal decisions will be implemented “in two days, very soon”, refusing to provide details on the ministries or functions.
The purpose of the administration, according to the sources, is to take advantage of the shutdown politically, reducing the government device against the background of suspending the financing. In parallel, Vought ordered the suspension of a $ 18 billion infrastructure project in New York, motivating concerns about diversity and equity – a decision that overshadows key electoral areas, such as those represented by Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.
He also announced the reduction of $ 8 billion in the financing of renewable energy projects in the states that supported the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections.
Previously, the White House budget office had already demanded the federal agencies to prepare mass dismissal scenarios – an approach that exceeds the usual practice of sending employees on without payment during a shutdown.
Speaking of the Republican Strategy, the president of the Chamber of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said that the Shutdown offers the opportunity to apply measures impossible to adopt otherwise, due to the lack of democratic support: “The White House decides what services are indispensable, what programs must be continued and what will no longer be priority.”
The US Vice -President JD Vance has publicized the intensity of dismissal plans, claiming that Republicans do not want to eliminate employees, but they could be forced to do so to save money during the government's activity. In the past, in shutdown situations, most federal workers were sent on leave without payment, without drastic measures of massive redundancies.
Republicans have accused democracies of communication initiation, relying on the electoral impact of the shutdown before next year's intermediate elections. According to Vice President Vance, the Democratic Opposition refuses to restart the Government: “There will be inevitable difficulties, as the democratic senators reject the resumption of government activity.”
Possible solutions and negotiations in the Senate
Moderates from both parties organized discussions in the Senate on Wednesday to find a compromise – a temporary mechanism that would allow the government to resume without any of the parties losing political face. Among the options discussed was the adoption of a “clean” draft, limited as a duration.
Democrats have transformed the dispute into a power station on medical insurance, warning that, in the absence of an agreement, the increase of contributions will affect millions of Americans. In order to vote to resume funding, Republicans only need eight additional democratic votes to conclude debates and adopt the financing project.
Republican leaders have expressed confidence that they will be able to convince sufficient democrats to support the resumption of government. Vance said he would negotiate the issue of health subsidies – but only after the government is operational again.
The pressure of shutdown and the previous historical
The shutdown is expected to last a few days – Wednesday, the Senate again rejected the financing projects, and the White House and the Congress are far from a consensus. The room of the representatives will not work this week, and the senators are to be sent home for the Yom Kipur holiday, with a scheduled return on Friday, October 3, for continuous activity.
In Trump's previous mandates, the US government has been stopped twice due to budget blocks. The one of 2018, triggered by the demand for funds for the border wall, lasted five weeks before the president gave up in the face of political and social pressure.
The current Shutdown, the first of this caliber of almost seven years, started at midnight between September 30 and October 1 (07:00, Bucharest time). Usually, in such situations, federal agencies suspend the activity of most officials, except for the essential staff (military, police, doctors, air traffic controllers, etc.). The first affected institutions include national parks, museums, immigration courts and sanitary inspections.
