CFR Călaturi has received three new electric frames Alstom Coradia Stream, but from October 6, only one will remain in circulation, after a second train will be withdrawn by the producer “for technical reasons”, says the state operator. Instead of the French train, modernized wagons will be placed by PNRR.
Of the three frames, one was withdrawn on September 19, and the next one will not run from October 6. These new frames first circulated between Bucharest and Brașov and then between Bucharest and Constanța.
CFR Călaturi should have had 12 Coradia trains in the fleet, but Alstom was very late with trains that – initially, were made to Poland and then the production was moved to Germany.
Seven trains Alstom Coradia Stream among the 37 trains in the contract were produced, and five of them are in the country.
The Railway Reform Authority says that, at present, at the Alstom factory in Bautzen there are 15 trains Coradia Steam, and during October-December 2025, three monthly trains will be delivered, following, starting in January 2026, the rhythm of deliveries will increase to four trains per month, says the authority for the Rail Reform.
What CFR Calatii says
“Currently, out of the three frames Coradia Alstom made available to CFR Călaturi by the Railway Reform Authority within the public service contract, two frames are in circulation, one of the frames being withdrawn by Alstom on September 19, 2025 for technical aspects.
The four trains that were formed with frames Coradia IR 16091, IR 16092, IR 16093 and IR 16094 Bucharest Nord – Constanta and return, currently circulates with PNRR wagons and locomotives.
From the approval of Alstom, starting with October 6, 2025, another corner frame for technical reasons will be withdrawn.
So far, Alstom did not communicate once for the return of the two frames into circulation.
We mention that CFR Călaturi makes efforts to replace the Alstom Coradia frames with wagons from their own rolling stock park.
CFR Călaturi apologizes for passengers for the inconvenience encountered. “
