Orlen Synthos Green Energy forecasts that the average price of electricity from the fleet of several BWRX -300 reactors in the 2040 perspective in Poland will be at the level of 120 euros per MWh – said the director of the strategy and development of Osge Marcin Ciepliński.

As he reminded on Thursday during Energy Days in Katowice Ciepliński, Osge gave the Ministry of Energy a description of support tools that the company considers necessary in the BWRX-300 reactor construction project in Poland. Among them is a differential contract and other accompanying support methods.
– Assuming that they will be used, we forecast that for the fleet of several BWRX -300 reactors in the perspective of 2040 the price would be at the level of 120 euros per MWh – said the director. He noticed that this is a level comparable to prices in the proposal of the differential, which was in the government's application to the European Commission for approval of public aid for the first Polish nuclear power plant, which is to be created in Pomerania in Westinghouse AP1000 technology. In this application, the government assumed that in the basic scenario this price will be in the range of PLN 470-550 per MWh realistically. – We are at a comparable level (…) Basically, these are very similar numbers – said Ciepliński.
He noted that the construction of BWRX-300 reactors is a private and commercial, market project in the financial dimension and in the energy market. – We do not assume that the state from the budget to this project will add – emphasized Ciepliński.
He added that the differential and certain tools accompanying the tools must be entered to get funding. – We are talking about commercial financing, also from the accident of export credit agencies, because they also review projects from the perspective of profitability and enforceability – he emphasized. As indicated by the agencies, they will not risk that a project that the state will help by financing some deliveries, will not arise or the entity implementing it will be unable to handle the repayment of loans.
Ciepliński pointed out that the market conditions in the EU are such that actually for all new implementations are incentive and support systems. Someone who would like to enter the market without such support, has little chance – added the director.
At the beginning of September, the president of Osge Rafał Kasprów announced that with a request to the Ministry of Energy about the start of dialogue on differential contracts for the BWRX-300 fleet in Poland, the company appeared in August. At the same time, he expressed the hope that the government would notify the European Commission by the end of 2025.
Osge is a company belonging to Michał Sołowów Synthos Green Energy and Orlen. It plans to build a whole fleet of reactors in GE VERNOVA-HITACHI BWRX-300 technology in Poland. The first indicated locations in Poland are Ponds Monowskie near Oświęcim, Włocławek and Ostrołęka. The proceedings for issuing environmental decisions are pending for them. In his strategy, Orlen assumes that he will have two BWRX-300 blocks to 2035, and the first BWRX-300 in Poland will be built in Włocławek, near Anwil plants.
The BWRX-300 belongs to the family of water-glowing reactors (BWR). At the same time, due to the relatively low power – 300 MWe – it is included in the so -called SMR – small modular reactors. The first such reactor is created for OPG at the Canadian Darlington nuclear power plant. (PAP)
