The agreement with Mercosur caused a storm on the Internet. Politicians comment on the movements of EU countries

European Union countries agreed on Friday to conclude a trade agreement with the Mercosur bloc of South American countries. Austria, Ireland, France, Poland and Hungary were against signing the agreement. In response to Brussels' decision, farmers came to Warsaw and organized a protest.
Due to the protests and Brussels' decision, a wave of comments appeared on the X platform on the Internet. “Mercosur is a 'cuckoo's egg' that PiS left for Polish farmers,” we read in the Civic Coalition's entry.
Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also commented on the matter. “In the EU-Mercosur case, as we announced, we voted against. In the provisions themselves, PSL won specific protections: protective clauses that give countries tools to react when imports begin to affect the profitability of production and destabilize the market,” Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote.
The Minister of Agriculture also commented on the matter. “Poland, France, Hungary, Ireland and Austria voted against the EU-Mercosur agreement. Belgium abstained from voting. The rest of the EU countries voted 'for'. We convinced our allies to vote 'against', PiS convinced its allies to vote 'for',” wrote Stefan Krajewski.
- A row in the Sejm. Cries of “resign!” from the parliamentary benches
“They attack Nawrocki for his lack of effectiveness in the Mercosur case”
KO MP Roman Giertych spoke on the occasion of the agreement with Mercosur. “I would like to inform those who attack Nawrocki for his lack of effectiveness regarding the agreement with Mercosur and his failure in trying to convince Italy and Prime Minister Meloni to join Poland and France in blocking the signing of the agreement that his failure may turn out to be good for us. We will be the largest free trade zone in the world,” wrote the lawyer.
Marek Borowski pays attention to detail in the contract with Mercosur
Former Speaker of the Sejm Marek Borowski draws attention to a certain nuance. “The agreement with Mercosur in its original form was indeed risky for Polish farmers. Nevertheless, when PiS was in power, it accepted it and did not demand any changes. Today, as usual, it is hypocritically fueling the protests. Such changes, in the form of safeguards, were only negotiated by the current government and MEPs from KO and PSL,” noted the left-wing politician.
- Karol Nawrocki appeals to the Prime Minister regarding Mercosur. “Unacceptable”
“The EU-Mercosur agreement is a real threat to Polish agriculture”
Presidential Minister Marcin Przydacz clearly comments on the matter. “They outplayed him again in the European Union. During the rule of the United Right, there was a blocking minority. It was destroyed after Donald Tusk came to power. The Germans had their way,” Przydacz said. “The EU-Mercosur agreement is a real threat to Polish agriculture. Polish farmers have to compete with goods produced using methods that Europe does not agree to? It is an uneven game from the very beginning,” adds Mariusz Błaszczak, vice-president of PiS.
PiS MP Przemysław Czarnek has a clear view on the matter. “Today in Warsaw we support the protest of farmers who are fighting for a safe future of Polish agriculture and protesting against the passivity of Donald Tusk's government,” the lawyer wrote.
- Mercosur is making the EU red hot. Millions are waiting for this decision
The Confederation is clear about the agreement with Mercosur
As Deputy Speaker of the Sejm Krzysztof Bosak notes, if family farms go bankrupt, Poland's dependence on imports will become permanent.
“The conclusion of the EU-Mercosur agreement has serious consequences. First of all, it means the loss of food sovereignty, increased dependence on imports at a time when European agriculture is being choked by increasingly restrictive standards, and the disruption of supply chains may quickly lead to a serious crisis,” wrote the leader of the Confederation.
Sławomir Mentzen also spoke. “Tusk's government did nothing to save Polish farmers from the effects of the agreement with the Mercosur countries,” wrote the former candidate for President of Poland.
According to France 24, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is to sign an agreement with representatives of Mercosur countries in the “coming weeks”.
