Berlin will provide Ukraine with two other Patriot anti -aircraft defense systems by the end of 2025, said the German Defense Minister Boris Pistoruis, at the Warsaw Security Forum, held on Monday, September 29.
Ukraine has repeatedly requested Western allies to provide additional patriotic systems-some of the few in the world that ensure the defense against Russian ballistic missiles-to help protect the cities and infrastructure in the country devastated by the war in front of the air attacks launched by the Russian army, the Kyiv.
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski confirmed that Israel delivered another patriotic system.
According to Pistorius, Germany will provide Ukraine additional systems with the support of the Norwegian partners, in addition to the three it has already delivered.
“The recent Russia attack with over 580 drones and over 40 missiles has once again stressed the importance of strengthening the anti -aircraft defense,” the German minister said.
The Patriot anti -aircraft battery made in the US consists of radar units for target detection and tracking, a fire control center, rocket launchers and support equipment, such as power sources and communication systems.
Depending on its configuration, a typical Patriot battery includes between four and eight launchers, capable of launching a series of missiles designed to intercept ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as other types of attack devices (such as drones-UAVs).
Advanced anti -aircraft defense systems, such as Patriot, remain insufficient globally, some components requiring years to be produced.
Pistorius also said on Monday that Berlin has obtained the commitment of American company Raytheon (RTX), which produces the Patriot system in collaboration with Lockheed Martin, that it will quickly restore the stocks of the German army, which will allow the European country to send Kiev the two additional systems without compromising its defense commitments to the North Atmount (NATO).
