The Minister of Education and Research, Daniel David, told Digi24 that the scholarship system implemented so far in pre -university education has come to “pervert the merit”, by granting merit scholarships for a large number of students, based on a 30% share for each class.
Daniel David was asked, in a television show, what message he has for those students who learned all year to get the necessary average of the merit stock exchanges and who do not receive a scholarship anymore because they are not among the first in the class, being part of very good classes.
“I tell the student the following thing: I am glad he has high grades. But I am very worried that you see what we do when we bring many resources in a system that does not have the right forms, we get to distort sometimes the minds of the children. News.ro.
Hundreds of positions in education will be eliminated, announces the Minister of Education. What is the category concerned
The minister criticized the establishment of a share of at least 30% of students from a class to benefit from merit scholarships.
“We perverted the merit because we had a system in which you had the merit scholarship of at least 30%in a class. And if you had very good classes where everyone had over 9.50, it was no longer 30%, it was 100%. It is not ok.
“We need to think better the money”
Regarding the exchanges for the Olimipics, the Minister of Education shows that the results from the Olympics will still be awarded, but without the subsequent grant of a special scholarship.
“After taking the prize, we have no way to support a monthly scholarship system. Because if you are an Olympic, beyond the prize you took, you may take the merit scholarship in your class. I am not from the beginning that I would not need more money for the stock market. Baccalaureate or did not take the baccalaureate if they presented themselves, ”David added.
He pleaded again for the idea that in pre-university education, those who, due to socio-economic conditions, cannot access the free education, must be supported.
Asked how much the stock market fund would be reduced, given that the budget allocated so far was about 6.5 billion lei, the minister explained that there is no data at this time, because the social scholarships have not been calculated.
“We are interested in us and I am sure to eliminate the excesses, to come up with normal mechanisms, the social scholarship to be for those who need a social scholarship, the merit to be deserved and we will see. It will certainly decrease the budget.
