Kiev became, in the early hours of Sunday, the target of an intense attack with drones and rockets, which, according to independent observers, was one of the biggest Russian attacks on the capital of Ukraine and the surrounding region since the beginning of the war, reports Reuters.

The drones appeared above the city, and the anti -aircraft shots rang all night. The attack continues at 7:20 in the morning.

A clip posted online shows how a shahed drone is intercepted by anti -aircraft above Kiev.

The Kiev military administration said at least six people were injured until 7 in the morning.

Some inhabitants fled to the underground subway stations to shelter. Many regions in the country have been put in a state of aerial alert.

On the social networks appeared images with blocks and houses in flames after Russian blows:

Poland has closed some of the airspace

Poland closed the air space near the cities of Lublin and Rzeszow in the southeast of the country until at least at at least 04:00 GMT (7 o'clock in Romania), due to “unplanned military activity related to the security of the state”, the Flighttradar24 flight follow-up.

The Polish armed forces said they sent airplanes to ensure the security of its airspace after Russia launched Ukraine attacks.

“In connection with the activity of the long distance aviation of the Russian Federation that performs attacks on the territory of Ukraine, the Polish and Allied aircraft have begun to operate in our airspace,” the army said in a post on X. This described actions as preventive and meant to ensure the security of the airspace and protect the citizens.

Ukraine's air forces have shown that air raid alerts have entered into force throughout the country starting at 06:00 (the same time in Romania).

What is known about Russian attack with rockets and drones

Five Russian TU-95 bombers took off from the Olenya aerodrome in the Mermansk region around 1:45, local time, reported monitoring channels, according to Kyiv Independent. Around 2:25 pm, the military administration of Kiev warned that Russia has built MIG-31K bombers, triggering an air alert throughout the country.

Ukraine's air forces then issued a warning to 03:52, saying that Russia has probably lifted TU-95 aircraft from the Engels air base.

During the night, shahed drone swarms have also threatened a number of Ukrainian regions. The explosions were reported in Kyiv, the Kiev region, Zaporojie, the Hmelnîțki region and Sumî.

Kiev and Zaporojie have reported the biggest damage caused by the attack so far.

A five -storey building in the capital was partially destroyed, and the residential infrastructure was damaged in several districts, said the head of the Kiev military administration, Tymur Tkachanko. The attack also damaged non -residential buildings and parked cars.

At least six people were injured, five of them were hospitalized, said the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko.

“The rockets still hit the city,” he said on Sunday morning, urging the inhabitants to stay in shelters.

In the Kiev region, the fires broke out in several houses and buildings in the neighborhoods outside the capital during the “enemy attack”, the regional authorities said. Five people in the city were injured – all employees of a bakery that caught fire during the attack.
