NATO bosses met in Riga. “The reaction will be determined”
The bosses of the staff of 32 NATO countries discussed in the capital of Latvia, Riga, the last violations of the airspace by Russia – the German DPA agency said on Saturday morning.
“I express full and unambiguous solidarity with all allies whose airspace has been violated,” said the chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone in his opening speech.
He called these violations “reckless” and life -threatening, and then accused Moscow of full responsibility. “NATO's reaction was determined and it will still be like that,” said Dragone.
The NATO Military Committee advises the North Atlantic Council, the highest political body of NATO, in military matters. One of the priorities of the conference is the implementation of the decision of the NATO summit in The Hague.
Last Friday, three Russian MiG-31 fighters flew into the airspace of Estonia near the island of Vaindloo on the Gulf of Finnish and remained there for about 12 minutes. Russian officials – Bloomberg said on Thursday – denied that their planes exceeded the Estonian airspace and assured that they were not trying to test NATO.
They also stated that earlier incidents, when the drones flew into the territory of Poland and Romania, were the result of an error.
