However, the entrepreneur Maciej Radziwiłł gave him financial assistance. When asked if he does not feel that, taking the Polish state to maintain the former presidential candidate, the Polish state replaces, Maciej Radziwiłł stated that “of course yes”.
Let us add that it supports not only the mentioned Belarusian, but also many other people, environments and initiatives (e.g. the Museum of Free Belarus or the Youth Belarusian Hub in Warsaw). He allocates for help for Belarusians both funds from the Three Troppings Foundation (Family of the Radziwiłł family) and their private funds.
In the case of the former Belarusian opposition leader in question, ongoing maintenance (grocery shopping, purchase of drugs and others) is not the only problem. This man had serious medical problems that deteriorated after he was infected during surgery in a hospital in Poland.
Interestingly, he decided to surgery in our country, not in Germany, where he also had such an opportunity, because he was afraid to cross the Polish-German border. His fears resulted from the fact that he ended the Polish visa and at some point he stayed in our country illegally. Asked if politicians, who were eager to photograph him a few years ago, were able to help him in this matter, the Belarian politician replied that he had long ceased to try to get to anyone.
Fortunately, health matters were done, which was helped by the former prosecutor of the National Prosecutor's Office who wanted to maintain anonymity, who, having family contacts in the medical environment, managed to organize the necessary rehabilitation.
The situation described above is unfortunately not special. In the same situation, there were forced to escape from Belarus. Leading activists of the Association of Poles in Belarus (ZPB) persecuted by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko (ZPB)
In January, their stories were described in the dramatic text in the dramatic text by Rusłan Szoszon. From its reportage, exactly the same image emerges as in the case described earlier. It shows that ZPB leaders in Poland are either unemployed at all, or work for minimal wages. The norm is the situation in which the university lecturers work as a cleaning help or fry fries in fast-food networks.
However, a real drama begins when it comes to people aged 70-80 who can either not find any work, or because of their age and health, they are no longer able to work. Onet's editorial office is known at least one case of a person who, having encountered the indifference of Polish politicians, offices and foundations, brushed a suicide attempt.
Cynicism of Polish politicians
Polish politicians, who not only willingly photographed with Belarusian oppositionists, but also encouraged them to actively fight the Lukashenko regime, At the moment when public opinion is interested in a lesser matter than before, they completely lost their interest in people who promised help and which – let's mark it very clearly – help is due.
Above all, however, this help pays to Poland. Its lack means that the opposition in Belarus will not want to work with our country. Indifference, cynicism, tumiwisism and political stupidity in this matter combine, let us add, politicians of both current coalition and opposition. What's worse, this has been happening for years.

On August 30, 2020, tens of thousands of demonstrators manifested on the streets of Belarusian cities after forged presidential elections
We even betrayed a man who dissolved the USSR
In “Demon from behind”, i.e. a book about Belarus and Lukashenko, I described the story of the first President of Belarus Stanisław Szuszkiewicz, who was not only a kind Poland and a pro -Western democrat, but above all a man who, together with Boris Jelcin and Leonid Krawcz, signed the so -called Białowieża agreements that laid an end to the existence of the USSR.
Describing the event from 2010, I wrote: “As I remember today, when (Szuszkiewicz) came to the embassy asking for a visa. Of course, the visa was issued, but half a year later Stanisław Stanisławowicz came again, again for a visa. I was very surprised, because Schengen's visa can be published annual, two -year and five years. It was obvious to me that the former president of the state and a man who was one of those who led to the dissolution of the USSR should get a five -year visa of Schengen. So I called the Consul and in response I heard that “they all think that they should get what visas” “.
I will recall one more fragment of my book:
“It was probably in 2013 or 2014. I was just leaving the Presidential Palace, where I visited the head of the Chancellery of the President. My meeting was to last half an hour, but it was shortened, because the reception on the occasion of the constitution festival began. When I left, I met in Kraków Przedmieście Stanisław Szuszkiewicz. I asked him if he was going to the party, because it seemed to me that it was quite natural, that just on the feast of the Constitution of May 3 (i.e. the constitution, as if not to look, and the Polish -Lithuanian Commonwealth), the former president of Belarus should even be obligatory. Stanisław Szuszkiewicz told me that he was in the palace barely two days earlier at the meeting, but no one invited him.

Stanisław Szuszkiewicz, Warsaw, 2013
I wanted to fall with shame. I invited Mr. Stanisław for coffee to the Bristol Hotel, and then apologizing to him that I had to use the toilet, I called Jacek Michałowski with a request that you can urgently, of course apologizing for the mistake, invite Stanisław Szuszkiewicz and honor him accordingly. Michałowski reacted positively, but unfortunately he did not provide the manual in a sufficiently clear way, because Szuszkiewicz was invited by one of the officials of the Chancellery of the President, but not as the former president of the neighboring state should be invited, i.e. with a proposal that a car would be sent (and it does not matter that this car would have to be driven only a few meters),, But in such a way that Szuszkiewicz heard that there was just a party and he could come. Szuszkiewicz repeated this to me and then went to the party. I do not want to say that he was a man who was so wanted to recognize, because even a shadow of something like this was not there. He was simply too cultural to refuse, even if he was invited in a rude way. In this story, unfortunately, as in the mirror, all weakness and the whole drama of the Belarusian opposition are focused.
At this point, it is necessary to explain what Szuszkiewicz did in Poland at all. Aleksander Łukaszenko from revenge in Szuszkiewicz did not valorized him after hyperinflation of his pension. As a result, Szuszkiewicz's pension was worth about $ 1 in terms of. And the man who never took a penny had simply had to earn some extra money, or rather to the assistance he got. Poland decided to help him, but this help did not consist of awarding him a prize, which would be accompanied by a check for 100,000. Or half a million dollars. It was help in the form of low -paid lectures at the University of Warsaw.
Let's add that Szuszkiewicz lived at least in a poor one, because at most one- or two-star Harenda Hotel, while, if he had to live in Bristol at the expense of the Polish taxpayer. And never have to work a single day. And not even because he had merits for Poland, for Belarus, and taking into account his role in the breakup of the USSR – also for the world, but because this is how politics is done. Signals are sent to Poland's friends that Poland will remember them.
Poland has never done anything like that. The history of Stanisław Szuszkiewicz's old age is the history of Polish disgrace. As in the mirror, it is focused in it all pseudo-large, and in essence plebeian rudeness and contempt, which is lined with our attitude towards Belarus and Belarusians. Including to the opposition. “
A clear signal to the Belarusian opposition
It is obvious that Poland will not be able to help anyone who had to run away from Belarus. The fact that we are not able to help even the former president, the former presidential candidate and the leaders of the Polish minority is a compromise of the Polish state.
The fact that we wash our hands in relation to people whom we have a long gratitude to, and in some cases we also made specific obligations, sends only one to the Belarusian opposition and independent environments, but for that Very bad signal. You should not have anything to do with Poland, you should not be associated with Poland, you must not count on Poland and it must be assumed that everything that Polish promises is not worth.
Corruption, stupidity or action on behalf of Moscow
The beneficiary of the universal belief in the Belarusian opposition that this is the case is, unfortunately only Russia. Such behavior is the same as other as a face planned for the Polish Eastern policy, on which we spend considerable means at all.
The problem is that these funds more often than to the Belarusian opposition or independent environments go to the foundations and centers often controlled by the Polish special services that the money entrusted to them spend on maintaining themselves.
Meanwhile, real activity is falling apart. The fact that it has been so invariably for at least 20 years and that regardless of who rules Poland, nothing changes in this respect, proves that we are either corrupt or we are fools. The third option would be that we are infiltrated by Russian agents and we will sabotage our future not from stupidity and not for money, but on a request from Moscow.
