The Minister of Health Alexandru Rogobete, left on Saturday morning in Iași, where he will coordinate the control from the hospital where several children died after being infected with the Bacteria Serratia Marcescens. “Those who have not done their job will go home without discussion,” Rogobete said on Friday.
According to the ministry, Rogobete is going to arrive at the “St. Maria” Emergency Clinical Hospital in Iași around 1:30 pm.
There “there will be a meeting with all the factors involved, and the minister will coordinate the control together with the head of the Control Body and the head of the State Sanitary Inspection within the Ministry of Health.”
At the end of the discussions, a press conference will be organized, the ministry transmitted without specifying at what time it will take place.
Six children, who suffered from other associated diseases, died at the “Santa Maria” Hospital in Iași, after being infected with the bacteria of Marcescens Serratia, a nosocomial infection.
The intensive care section, where the children were admitted, was closed, after other patients were diagnosed with the same bacterium. An epidemiological investigation has been initiated.
The Ministry of Health and the Government of Romania must think a concrete plan to combat nosocomial infections in hospitals, President Nicușor Dan reacted, saying that he is “deeply grieving” what happened in Iasi.
The hospital reported “too late” the situation
Alexandru Rogobete told Hotnews on Friday that the hospital reported “too late” the epidemiological situation in the ATI section. He said, however, that at this moment “we cannot make a direct connection between associated infections and deaths.”
The minister announced that the health inspectors from the Public Health Directorate of Iași applied three fines: 10,000 lei for the hospital epidemiologist, 10,000 lei for the ATI doctor, 50,000 lei to the hospital, for non -observance of protocols and specific procedures for limiting the associated infections of the medical activity.
Died children suffered from serious associated diseases: lightning meningitis, convulsive syndrome, Edwards, tetraparesis or epilepsy syndrome, writes the local publication 7iasi.
The first case of infection with the Bacteria Serratia Marcescens appeared on September 7, followed by two others. On September 16, another 6 cases appeared, but the ATI section remained functional, and the hospitalizations continued. On Wednesday, on September 24, the section was closed for hospitalizations.
In total, 9 children were infected with the Marcescens Serratia bacteria, it appears from a hospital information. The evolution of the 3 children who are alive is favorable, according to a statement of the hospital.
