The Romanian Handball Federation has a first candidate for the position of coach of the national women's handball team, after the resignation submitted by Florentin Pera (45 years), on Thursday, September 25th.

According to GSP sources, Bogdan Burcea (53 years old), Pera's second, who resigned two hours before the head coach, received a proposal to return to the lot as a coach.

Less than two months before the start of the World Women's Handball Championship, the Romanian national team remained without a coach.

Florentin Pera has resigned on September 25, as well as his second, Bogdan Burcea.

However, the first variant of the Romanian Handball Federation is Bogdan Burcea. The coach is expected to give a final answer until the afternoon of Friday, September 26.

In the case of a refusal of Bogdan Burcea, FRH has 6 other variants for the post of selector:

  • Bent Dahl, former coach at Râmnicu Vâlcea

  • Herbert Muller, current coach at Thuringer

  • Adi Vasile, former Romanian coach and current coach at CSM Bucharest

  • Ovidiu Mihăilă, coach at SCM Craiova and selector of the youth representative

  • The couple of Andrei Popescu and Raul Photonea, from CSM Slatina

  • Costică Buceschi, former coach at the Turkish national team, currently free of contract

A coach will be chosen until the end of the World Championship, and the contract will be negotiated until the 2028 Olympics.

Remaining without a selector, Romania's national women's handball team is to play official matches within the EHF Euro Cup 2025 in October. Also, the debut at the World Championship will take place in November.

Pera and Burcea were at the “leader” of the first representative of 2022, and the resignation of the two came less than a week since the national team lost the two friendly matches against France, scores 27-32 and 24-30.

After the resignation from the national team of Romania, Pera will remain a coach at his club team, SCM Râmnicu Vâlcea.
