The Dutch police arrested two teenagers suspected of espionage on behalf of a foreign power, authorities announced, in a linked case, according to the local press, by pro-Russian hackers.
One judge ordered the arrest of the two 17 -year -old teenagers, one in preventive arrest, the other under house arrest, said Brechtje van de Mosdijk, the prosecutor's spokesman, for France Presse, cites News.ro.
The Telegraf newspaper published an interview with the father of one of the teenagers, who said that the authorities accuse his son of passing important buildings in The Hague with a “Sniffer Wi-Fi”, a device or software capable of intercepting data. The father told the newspaper that eight men with caps had entered the house on Monday, with an arrest warrant on behalf of the young man. He added that his son, passionate about video games, is suspected to be in contact with pro-Ruşi hackers through the Telegram Messenger application.
According to the father, the boy would have transported the “Wi-Fi” and in front of the Canada Embassy, as well as Europol and Eurojust, the police and legal agencies of the European Union, based in The Hague.
“My son is not involved in politics at all. I can not imagine that this could happen. I know he is interested in the computer piracy. But I had no idea what he was doing,” said the father, quoted by Telegraf.
“Watch your children carefully, ask them what they are doing and warn them about the dangers,” he urged his parents.
The Dutch prosecutor's office suspects the “interference of a state”, but refused to give more details due to the age of the suspects and the sensitive character, told AFP Van de Mosdijk. She said that a new hearing with closed doors will take place in two weeks.
