The Turkish Ministry of Environment announced on Saturday that the country has registered the hottest month July in 55, AFP reports.

The temperatures recorded in 66 of the 220 weather stations in the country showed an average increase of 1.9 degrees Celsius compared to the previous years, according to the announcement made by the ministry in an X post.

Towards the end of the month, the highest temperature has ever been reported in Turkey, 50.5 degrees Celsius, in Silopi, in the southeast of the country.

Silopi, a city in the province of Sirnak, is about 10 kilometers from the borders of Iran and Syria. In a material made by AFP on the occasion of the temperature record, the local entrepreneurs demanded the support of the Turkish state for the payment of electricity invoices, invoking the importance of air conditioning in the context of the heat wave.

Thus, the record of 49.5 degrees Celsius, which had been established in August 2023 in the western province of Eskișehir, was shot down.

Turkey faced a hot weeks and a series of vegetation fires.

In the fight with the fires that took place last month in the western part of the country, 14 people died.

Hundreds of people were evacuated on Friday in the province of the northwest of the country, where the crowded Dardanele was closed to maritime traffic due to two devastating fires.

The heat wave also aroused fears about water resources. Çeșme, a tourist city of the Aegean Sea, has restricted access to tap water for locals and tourists between 23:00 and 6:00, starting July 25.
