Nicușor Dan, message two hours after the Government's ad about Ion Iliescu's death: History will judge him

“History will judge Ion Iliescu, the central character of the transition of the 1990s,” said President Nicușor Dan Marti, after the death of the first head of state in the post -December history of Romania. The president's message came about two hours after the Romanian Government confirmed Iliescu's death.
“History will judge Ion Iliescu, the central character of the transition of the 1990s. It is our obligation to clarify the great files of the time, to go on,” said Nicușor Dan, through a message sent by the Presidential Administration.

Ion Iliescu died on Tuesday, August 5, at the age of 95, the SRI Agrippa Ionescu Hospital announced where the former president has been admitted in the last 57 days. The death was registered at 15.55, according to the official announcement of the hospital.

Ion Iliescu was hospitalized on June 9 at Agrippa Ionescu Hospital. On June 16, doctors announced that Ion Iliescu suffers from lung cancer.
The official announcement regarding the death of Ion Iliescu came initially from the Government, in a press release, at 17.53, while the death took place at 15.55, as confirmed.
“According to the protocol, two hours are expected after the disappearance of vital signs” to announce the death, explained the government spokesman, Ioana Dogioiu, why the official announcement came later.
This evening, the Government meets in a meeting to adopt the Government Decision on the funerals of former President Ion Iliescu.
