A plane from Egypt made an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo Airport tonight, despite the ban due to the Carpet plan. The crew took this step due to a critical shortage of fuel.
Boeing 737 (SU-RSB) of the Egyptian Red Sea Airlines was traveling on flight RSX3-111 from Sharm el-Sheikh to Vnukovo. Due to restrictions imposed at airports, the ship circled in the holding area over Vyazma. Dispatchers reported that fuel was running low. Because of this, at two o’clock in the morning the plane made an emergency landing at the Sheremetyevo alternate airfield, where the “Carpet” plan was introduced.
Restrictions on flights to Sheremetyevo and Vnukovo were lifted after an hour and a half, and at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky at five in the morning. In total, during the period of the “Carpet” operation, about 34 aircraft that flew to Moscow were sent to alternate airfields.
