Tara Reade, a US woman who claimed that former US president Joe Biden sexually assaulted her in the 1990s, received Russian citizenship on Monday, according to a decree signed by President Vladimir Putin, informs France Presse.
A document published on the official website of legal information states that “McCabe Alexandra Tara, born on February 26, 1964”, is now a Russian citizen.
According to American press, Reade changed his name to Alexandra McCabe in 1998 to protect himself from her ex-husband, whom he accused of domestic violence.
At the beginning of 2020, Reade stated that Biden, who was applying for elections, sexually assaulted a corridor of the US Congress in 1993, when he was a senator and she worked for Democrat.
The accusation, categorically denied by the Democratic politician, represented a challenge for his campaign against Donald Trump, who was at the first term of US president.
Trump himself has confronted accusations of sexual assault, harassment and rape from several women. He returned to power in January 2025.
The incoherers in Reade's account include the fact that no registration of the complaint that she claims has been found to have filed for the Congress after the alleged aggression.
In May 2023, she announced in an interview with the Russian State Publication Sputnik that she intends to request a Russian passport.
Speaking from Moscow, Reade said she decided to stay in Russia because she was afraid of her safety in her native country.
In July 2024, she announced on the social platform X that she is returning to the United States to file a complaint against Biden for sexual assault, a few days before the democratic president withdraws from the Race for Reolight.
