Kyiv is preparing for -17 degrees and Russian missiles. Mobile boiler rooms on standby

Due to significant cooling and the constant threat of Russian shelling aimed at energy facilities, Kiev's municipal services are preparing additional response procedures, especially regarding ensuring heating during power outages, the authorities of the Ukrainian capital said on Thursday.

“Housing cooperatives received recommendations regarding the operation of heating systems in various emergency situations during the cold season. 69 mobile boiler rooms were prepared for operation (last year their number increased by 16), including boiler rooms with increased power. If necessary, the devices will provide autonomous heating for hospitals, maternity wards, social care institutions, etc. All involved services work 24/7 and the situation is carefully monitored,” reads the announcement from the city authorities.

Residents are advised to familiarize themselves with the addresses of the nearest heating points and writing them down as well ensuring supplies of drinking and technical water for at least three daysassuming three liters of drinking water and 10-12 liters of technical water per one adult per day.

You should also check the charge level of power banks and portable charging stationsprepare warm home clothes, blankets, insulated places for pets, and insulate the apartment – appealed the Kiev city hall.

Residents were also urged to equip themselves with flashlights, battery-powered lamps or accumulatorscandles, matches, etc., and also took care of stocks of food with a long shelf life – and food that does not require electricity for preparation. Kiev residents should also stock up on necessary medicines and purchase home fire extinguishers in advance.

The temperature in Kiev on Thursday was 1 degree Celsius and there was light rain. The temperature is expected to be minus 5 degrees at night, but severe frosts are expected over the next few days, reaching minus 15-17 degrees.
