On Sunday, September 21, IgA Swiak (24 years, 2 WTA) won the 3rd title of the year, after those conquered at Wimbledon and Cincinnati. Polish had a very difficult mission against Ekaterina Alexandrova (30 years, 11 WTA), but won 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 and became a champion at Seoul.
After eliminating the US Open, Iga Swiak chose to play at Korea Open, where she entered the second round. The world number 2 defeated Sorana Cîrstea in 2 sets, 6-3, 6-2, and then she also passed Barbora Krejcikova and Maya Joint, qualifying in the final.
After a first set lost with 6-1, IgA Swiak recovered and obtained the title: “I just tried to resist”
However, the duel with Ekaterina Alexandrova was not easy at all. In the first set, Swiak was unrecognizable and the Russian imposed by 6-1showing that he approaches the final in Seoul with big thoughts.
The second sequence was much more balanced and Alexandrova had some opportunities to close the match. The Wimbledon champion resisted, sent the second set in tie-break and managed to equalize: 7-6 (3).
The last part of the final was an impressive struggle between Swiak and Alexandrova, but the energy of the 30 -year -old was younger, while her opponent gave no signs of fatigue.
At the end of the set, probably thinking of the huge opportunity he had, the world number 11 was with tears, during the last games. Swiak showed its value, it prevailed with 1-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 and won Korea Open.
“I hope I play tennis better than I speak of Korean. I want to congratulate Ekaterina for a week and a great final. Honestly, I don't know how I won. You played very well. I just tried to resist. Congrats and your team. A very good job. I hope to play many more finals, “said Swiak, quoted by We Love Tennis.
“I want to thank my team. I'm sorry for being difficult sometimes. Thank you for the patience. It wasn't an easy week. Thank you for staying with me,” Polish added.
