David Popovici (20 years old) obtained the gold medal in the 100 -meter free race At the European Championships U23 on Saturday night, at Samorin. He set a new European record, after finishing the race in 46.71 seconds. The Hungarian journalists applauded the Romanian success, drawing a clear conclusion after seeing him in the Slovak basin.

David Popovici removed the best time of the year (46.71) and the second in history, exceeding Jack Alexy (USA), who had swam 46.99 at the National Championships in March;

David also shot down the European record for the first basin, swimming the first 50 meters in 22.73 seconds, with a thousand seconds under the previous peak time;

On the second length of basin was the fastest in history, traveling in 23.98 seconds! The previous record on this piece was 24.05 and also belonged to David Popovici.
The international press reacted immediately after the record set by the legitimized swimmer at CS Dinamo, praise coming from America, France, Spain and Italy. Even the Hungarian journalists marked the moment, impressed by what the Romanian showed in the Samorin basin.
