Senators react to Trump's inactivity. It's about Poland and the eastern flank of NATO

The first projects were reported by the chairman of the Senate Commission for the Armed Forces, Republican Roger Wicker and deputy head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Democrat Jeanne Shaheen. The project, named “the Act on strategic partnership with the eastern flank”, determines as a priority of US policy defense cooperation with the countries of the NATO eastern flank, including Poland. In practice, the Act would ensure that these countries would be covered by priority in the Pentagon programs, including those regarding loans for the purchase of weapons – Foreign Military Financing and the initiative known as Section 333, i.e. a program to support US partners.

“We send a bright signal”

This is, among others The reaction to the Pentagon suspension of money under this second program, which provided for hundreds of millions of dollars for the Baltic States, including Romania. Earlier, 14 senators from the Democratic Party signed a petition regarding the restoration of these funds.

“This supra -party project sends a clear signal that the United States recognizes their obligations and will continue to treat them priority as part of our cooperation in the field of security. At a time when Russia issues the determination of NATO to the attempt – among others, through recently invading Polish and Romania – our allies in the eastern flank are significantly responsible for further safety and need the safety our unambiguous support, “wrote Shaheen and Wicker in a statement.

“This act would force Trump's administration”

Shaheen, together with many republican and democratic senators, also reported another initiative on Friday related to Russian aggression to Ukraine: a draft act on imposing sanctions on Russian tankers from the so -called shadow fleets, secretly transporting crude oil. Politicians presented this project as a way to extend the current restrictions and enter into the desire to cut Russia expressed by Trump from profits from the sale of oil.

“Our allies have imposed sanctions on shadow fleet ships – on hundreds of ships more than (did it) the United States. This act would force Trump's administration to fill this gap. We can't wait any longer to deprive Putin of funding sources, which (enable) his illegal war with Ukraine,” wrote Shaheen.

This is another initiative regarding sanctions against Russia by politicians of both party in Congress. Earlier projects – including the high duties on your buying Russian oil and entering Russia on the list of terrorism supporting countries – have not yet been processed due to the attitude of the Republican management in both chambers of Congress. Party leaders expressed their readiness to take these steps, but only with the consent of Donald Trump, who has been delaying the “green light” of the Congress for months.
