A cyber attack that targeted a service provider for check-in and boarding systems disturbed operations at several important European airports, including Heathrow in London, Brussels and Berlin, causing delays and flight cancels, operators said, quoted by Reuters.
The attack made the automatic systems unoperable, allowing only manual check-in and boarding procedures, according to the Brussels airport.
“This has a major impact on the flight program and, unfortunately, it will cause delays and cancellations,” the operator said in a statement published on his website.
“The service provider works actively on this problem and tries to solve it as soon as possible.”
Heathrow has also warned about the delays caused by “a technical problem” to a third party supplier.
Passengers with flights scheduled for Saturday were advised by the affected airports to confirm their journey with airlines before heading to the airport.
“Due to a technical problem with a system supplier operating throughout Europe, the waiting time for check-in is longer. We are working on a quick solution,” the Berlin Airport announced on a banner on his website.
Frankfurt airport is not affected by the attack, a spokesman said.
