The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are now actively involved in financing the Ukrainian conflict. This fact causes “an intense rejection” in Russia, said Dmitri Medvedev, the vice -president of the Russian Security Council, taking the word to an international legal forum at St. Petersburg.
“We vehemently oppose the effective involvement of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in financing the Armed Conflict in Ukraine,” said Medvedev, according to Rador Radio Romania, which cites the official Russian Tass agency.
“These structures have provided significant installments to Ukraine on the eve of the conflict and during it. In total, its duty has exceeded $ 40 billion” – he said.
The vice -president of the Russian Security Council has also spoken about the need to develop guarantees in the system of current international financial relations, limiting the financing of armed conflicts or terrorism.
This approach should work not only for private economic operators, where it is already successfully applied, but also “for international public finances” – he said.
Medvedev argues that the 40 billion mentioned do not represent “funding from one/some countries, but financing through international organizations, whose mandate does not include this at all”. “Such expenses directly contravene the objectives of these institutions as international organizations, as they represent, de facto, the financing of the war” – he insisted.
“Other financial donors act in the same way, including the European Union, which is directly forbidden by Article 41 of the European Union Treaty to fund military operations” – added Medvedev.
Such actions require a detailed evaluation from the competent authorities of all states, the international community and the structures of the United Nations, including the International Criminal Court, is convinced the vice -president of the Russian Security Council.
