A wave of bankruptcies on the Baltic Sea? The weather failed, but there are more problems

The 2025 summer season for many entrepreneurs on the Baltic Sea was definitely not successful. “It was the worst season in every respect for at least 10 years,” said the owner of the guest house in Mielno.
Mariusz Ławro, president of the Regional Tourist and Survivoring Association in Kołobrzeg, in an interview with the website information.kolobrzeg.pl points to the weather as the main culprit of the weak season. The first half of the holidays was marked by rain and cool temperatures, which effectively scared off tourists. It wasn't until August that he brought improvement, and the culmination was a long weekend, during which almost all quarters on the Baltic Sea were rented.
In Świnoujście, the moods are far from optimism after the end of the season. As EswinoujScie.pl notes, many businesses may not survive the coming months. “It is increasingly said that a wave of bankruptcies begins at the Polish sea, which will change the tourist landscape of the coast for years” – Alerts the website.
Owners of small facilities, such as private accommodation and guesthouses, are particularly at risk, which do not offer year -round attractions. The lack of additional services and infrastructure makes them more exposed to the effects of adverse weather conditions.

High prices, low quality. The Baltic loses with abroad?
The problem that further discourages tourists are the prices of accommodation, which often do not go hand in hand with quality. Many facilities on the Baltic Sea still resemble former sanatoriums, offering small rooms with basic equipment, which does not suit modern standards – notes Interia.
Meanwhile, the prices remain high – for example, at the beginning of August in Mielno, the cheapest accommodation cost PLN 193 for a place in the caravan. In Sopot, a room without a private bathroom was offered for PLN 360.
And food prices? According to Panparagon data, it is more expensive in the mountains. Despite this, many tourists have the impression that you pay more at the sea. We write more in this text About prices in the mountains and by the sea.
