Russian drones over Poland. Portugal will take part in the Operation Eastern Guard


Minister of Government Luis Montenegro specified that the Portuguese would take part in the NATO Operation Eastern Guard. He added that it is a response to Russia's provocation towards Poland, in which Russian drones broke on on September 10.

The head of the Ministry of Defense provided Fr. Portuguese army readiness to “increase its operational abilities” and her military presence on the eastern Flanka NATO. He emphasized that Lisbon would undertake his obligations to allies from the EU and NATO in the name of “principles of freedom and peace.”

Minister Melo declared that he was in favor of stopping armed conflicts, not their escalation, and also reborn “emotional reactions”.
– NATO is ready to defend its territory. However, we should not fuel what is clearly unreasonable and dangerous (…), actions that can lead to escalation that nobody wants – Minister Melo said to the Portuguese media.
The Eastern Operation Guard was announced on Friday as a result of Poland's activation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. The Polish authorities launched him after violating the airspace by Russian drones on the night of September 9-10.
