The Institute for Investigation of Communism Crimes and the memory of the Romanian exile (IICCMER) requested, on Tuesday, firm measures to combat the “online assault” of misinformation and nostalgia campaigns after communism, writes Agerpres.

Iiccmer highlights the need for firm measures to combat a “dangerous phenomenon for democracy and national security.”

“At the same time, the Institute declares its solidarity towards the Attorney General of Romania, Alex Florence, and considers today a crucial step made in the fight against the hybrid war coordinated by the Russian Federation and which has been visibly manifested in the public space in the last year,” says IICCMER in a press release.

The Institute recalls that the General Prosecutor's Office has identified four major types of narratives used in 2022 to manipulate public opinion at key moments, the first pattern and the most important being the narrative-identity.

This is not the first time ICCMER draws attention to a coordinated propaganda campaign of the ideologies specific to totalitarian regimes. In May 2025, he sent to the CNA a request to destroy a network that included tens of thousands of trolls and boots, who posted false and nostalgic-totalitarian content on social networks.
